Warning to everyone, if you buy a steering box from Paddocks on an exchange bases then don't expect you money back on the exchange. They have just sticked me up and said that the box was worn so they could not refurbish it . IT looks like if you by a recon box then all they will do is put a new seal in it and you get someone elses old box . They don,t change any internal parts at all. My old steering box came off a 2010 disco and had done 125000 miles , it was leaking and there was play in it but there was no damage internal or external. I bought a new box and returned the old one for a £100 credit. Had to chase them and then informed that I was getting nothing back. BE WARNED ITS NOT AS CHEEP AS IT FIRST SEEMS!!

They will probably want you to pay the courier charge to ship it back to you.

I use Paddocks for small stuff, oil filters, discs etc. I probably won't use them for much else.

We have a local refurbisher for steering racks etc. I wonder if he would restore my steering box if I asked him? I've had a rack off him before and was perfectly satisfied with it.

He's called Kelly Bray Steering Racks.

Hmmm, sounds about right.

Couple of months ago I went for recon unit from Paddocks. It leaked the moment it had fluid in it !. ( they did refund me, postage and all ! )

I managed to get a new ADWEST box for £ 275 + vat.

Fitted it and forgot about it.

Del.

i noticed bearmach stock a "quick ratio steering box"

obviously a new manufactured unit so must be tip top, sounds very exciting for the offroaders out there.

how much i wonder?

thats the dangerous thing with exchange, youve already paid the money before you get any back!

cheers.

when i first joined this forum paddocks was recomended highly to me, now all i seem to hear is how crap they are, i would now think twice about using them...

the problem is its easy to just go online and order the bits

i use there website as a reference tool.....

As do i. Quick search to find part numbers, quick e-mail to local indipendant, pick it up later that day or the day after.

Job done. Yes they are a bit more expensive for some bits but not by alot and i don't get ****ed about!

evening MS :)

your not wrong but i normally phone the bloke and say what i'm after he is a really nice bloke and unlike paddocks he is an enthusiast rather than just someone who answers a phone

I've had 2 orders with Paddocks. I've not had a problem with them yet.

I will probably use Mail Order 4x4 as well. They're part of Bearmach who do have a good reputation.

i always use paddocks and have never had a problem with them. then again i only live 7 miles from them and always go into the shop.
the only problem i have had is the counter waiting times on saturdays, you seem to wait for ever.

Ditto - I always seem to get stuck behind someone who (from the list of parts they're ordering) seems to be building a brand new land rover in kit form!

Only issue I have personal experience of was my mates snorkel for his 300 90, opened the box and found a lhs wing connector - in fairness it was ****part and the box was unopened but it meant another trip through to matlock... abosolutely no freebies or discount on another order that i was placing as we returned the snorkel :(

bought a stepper form them and it didnt even work when new, the old one was better!

twas ****part though and they didnt tell me that when ordering
