Hey guys , probably my first post on ere but been registered for months.Anyway i have a 2003 freelander TD4 automatic 2.0 on which i have the TC and HDC "failure" lights now constantly illuminated , before this they would illuminate for a short time then go out or go out if you tapped the brake . So they are now on constant since returning home with caravan in tow from our holiday yesterday .
What should i do now please guys??

Thanks much for now Drew

It`s the typical faulty brake light switch syndrome. If you do a quick check you should also find that when these two lights are on, your brake lights don`t work.

Happened on mine a while back, fitted a new brake light switch and everything ok.

LR released a new heavier duty switch to replace the original.

LXKB500120 Switch Assembly @ £7.76
LYMQ503280 Wire Assembly @ £9.45

These are the new part numbers and recent prices for the genuine LR replacement switch.

Thanks for replies guys , will be out later when the weather lets up wet n windy now ,welcome home to scotland eh lol (just back from week in sunny cleethorpes not a drop of rain all week ) .
Will update laters

Been out checked fuses , i have brake lights illuminating as normal couldnt locate the switch due to the plastic engine guard to which i dont have the torque head thingymabobs so will be visitin the mechanic 2moro . HDC and TC lights still on constant and green HDC light wont illuminate when button pressed on auto box.
Heres hopin it is only the switch and nothin major

cheers Drew

The brake light switch is located under the dash and is operated by the brake pedal.
If you lie on your back in the drivers side footwell and poke your head under the dash you should see it.
Only takes 2 minutes to change it.

Been to me trusty mechanic today plugged landy into diagnostics machine and has turned the lights off not replaced anything yet but will do if the lights should come back on .He also said that it could be the switch or it could be something (part i cant remember) he could check on front wi car on ramps but couldnt check the back as its located in the hub if not it would be a little guess work . So until the lights come back on its a wait lol .

Cheers guys Drew

Hi rossitigerr

I'm almost 100 % sure it's stop light swich.
It has two contacts one for stop light and second for ECU.
The one for ECU is giving trouble hence TC and HDC lights are On as status of brake pedal is critical for this applications
Change it and forget about this warrning

Best regards
