Guys, it seems that my electronist mind failed in this particular case...i better swallow the shame than cause trouble to somebody who makes the mod then he'll have some serious problems... i didnt make it public especially for this reason untill i've tested it for long time on my own car without any trouble for around 30000Km but from all the info i've got lately on the aulro site it becomes more clear to me that this mod might be risky so disregard it and i apologise for making it public ... no harm done though cos it cant hurt on a short run but better be affraid than get scared IMO ...so that's it

i'll fit an EGT gauge on mine and keep testing it just for my own curiosity though cos it sems my car can bear it without probs but i felt i must launch this warning :sorry:

dont blame just me, blame those who wrote RAVE too

for those interested here's the whole debate on that http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-2/201719-how-completely-get-rid-maf-de-egrd-td5.html

read it all very interesting your egt readings if different to normal will be interesting , your mind hasnt failed at all ,nothing ventured nothing gained either way youll know much more after this experiment than you did as a good few of us will:)

that's what they say...though mine didnt have greater consumption... which i thought should have been with overfueling

as long as you cap the peak values then it should be alright shouldn't it?

it will probably run a bit crap compared to a maf though, either in under or overfueling depending on the range.

Well I did the bypass on mine. It seems to be running fine. Said to myself that I'd get a new one before we went on holiday... I don't see any difference in the fuel consumption...

Thanks though for starting that thread Sierrafery, it was a very interesting read. I would be interested in what kind of EGT's you are getting too. And of course now I want to get an EGT on mine, especially before and after I remove my old, clogged cat.

Despite all that back and forth, there's always the foot-on-the-throttle reality of what's happening versus the theoretical. And it seems there's the RAVE understanding of the MAF function versus the conventional MAF function (rave basically saying it's only EGR function) which was the brunt of the conversation.

The one point that's interesting to remember about all of this is that the Td5 ECU is, as Luca over at Td5MapSuite Blog calls it, "a black hole" as far as information goes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but nobody has seen anything definitive in the coding/fuel maps of the ECU that shows *how* the MAF directly affects fueling, correct?

Given the lack of info on the ECU and relationship to the MAF/fuel mapping, it seems it makes sense to do such experiments to try to further figure it out. Like Luca says, there's lot of info about other ECUs for other makes which makes it easier to understand the system (and therefore diagnose problems). For us, we have the oh-so-vague RAVE and an apparently NSA-proof ECU... and folks willing to hack their Td5 and share the results!
