Well as the weather starts to get colder i think it might be nice to try and fixed my heated seats, like most ranges i have seen they have not worked since the day i brought the car.

Iv got some time off next week so i thought i would give it a go.
Firstly what parts am i likely to need, iv seen the thermostats thingies on another thread and some wire (does it have to be any certain type or gauge of wire for this?)

What tools do i need? iv got a torx bit for the seats and i know i need some long nose pliers for some hog rings but there must be somethink else.

And finally some help on what is it im doing!!! Has anyone come across a how to guide or any experienced people on here who have done this repair themselves.
Cheers

enjoy . f**cking pain in the arse does not even come close . If you do find the fault and repair it , you can do mine cos I can't , but the landrover main agent can't either .but then to be fair they only TRIED to charge me 3 hour's labour at £95 + vat . and ****ed up the door mirror system at the same time . well impressed , not.!!!!!!!!

There was a dude on ebay offering to do this repair.

I was half tempted, but funds didn't permit at the time (still don't really) and I forgot about it until yesterday when my seats were suddenly FREEZING again first thing in the morning!

I even got as far as buying some uprated thermostats, but that's as far as I've got with mine so far.

The normal failure, it certainly was on mine, is the elements breaking under the folds in the seat. I took the seats out and put them on the bench, dead easy repair. Almost any wire will do just remember to put a loop of it in the repair to stop it happening again. Some heatshrink to cover your repair joints might be a good idea. The one trick I'll give you is don't re-fit the hog rings, use cable ties. It's a helluva lot easier, now and if you ever have to go back in again.

I really need to get mine sorted too! Annoyingly the passenger seat works fine, so I need to take the drivers one apart and see what's the problem.

Is the repair guide for the P38 pretty much the same for the Classic?

Do you have to remove the seats for this? If so, mine has an airbag, so do I need to disconnect the battery for 4 or 5 hours before removing the seat?

Cheers!

You don't have to remove the seat but I'm a lazy sod and didn't fancy spending all that time on my knees fiddling about with hog rings etc. I just unplugged, unbolted the seat and lifted it out. To be honest I didn't even think about the airbags and didn't have any problems when I re-fitted the seats. Mind you mine's a 2000 diesel and they seem more robust in many respects than earlier and petrol models.

Mine's a Classic, it should be pretty robust! Right, another job for next weekend then. Rip the seat out.

After disconnecting both leads from battery, negative lead first. SRS is capable of firing bags for around 20 mins, so 30 to 40 mins should be plenty of time to wait before you work on it. Don't know where you get the 4 or 5 hours from.

That's good to know, cheers. Are the bolts easy to get to on a seat? Mine are electric, so I need to manouevre it into position before I disconnect the battery!

You will have to motor seat forwards to get rear bolts out and rearwards to get front bolts out. When bolts are out, disconnect battery and wait then uplug seat.
