I don't usually have any problems with my TD5 110 County but if I drive on the motorway above say 50 m.p.h. (unusual) then metal frames under the front driver and passenger seats get very very warm. So does the column in the centre where the gearstick sits but not forward of the gearstick.

The engine temperature is ok so I can only assume that it is something to do with the exhaust but there is no unusual noise to suggest a break in the exhaust.

Any ideas what could be causing this. Obvioulsy it is going to be great in the winter but no too good in the summer.

Cheers

my 200tdi also get breakfast ready on the floorpan on the motorway... checked and my heatshield is missing...

My 90 TD5 is the same - its not an issue just the gearbox and drive running at normal operating temperature, can get warm on long run in the summer but be thankfull of the heated seat option in the winter...

i had this problem and it was cous i had a slight blowout on the inlet pipe to the centre silencer box. I couldnt hear any difference in noise but when fixed the heat went.
