Want to change from petrol to diesel

Hi, Ive got a series 2A 109 land rover 2 1/4 petrol and have been told that a freight rover 2.5 diesel engine would fit into my land rover with not to much problems. Is this true???

Im looking to put a diesel engine in but want it to be an easy transfer. Does anybody know of any other engine that would work and any other engines to stay away from?

I am doing a swap at the mo.

Taking a 2 1/4 and putting in a 2.5 N/A (Think its from an early defender0 this lump came from a series 3 so I know it will fit my gearbox....
