wandering tickover

ive just overhauled the head on my lr 90 2,5 td,at anything above tickover its running brill.but.when it revs down to tickover it revs a little bit high and rougth,then all of a sudden it drops to a normal tick over,any ideas anybody,pls

sticking choke/throttle butterflys? that's all that springs to mind atm.

Check the governer on the doosel pump - its the little arm with the spring on it. Moving this should result in engine rev (tickover) changes. If this is faulty I have some spare injection pumps, if a 12J one is the same!

Yeah I was going to suggest what Boydy said. The tick over / idle adjuster (separate lever mechanism next to number 7 - not linked to the throttle cable) has a long screw adjuster with two locking nuts. Increase the revs slightly and check that they're tight. I take it that everything went well then? I did say I'd come and give you a hand did I not? That plan went down the pan!

1 & 2: High pressure (+2000PSI) Diesel injector pipes
3: (I think) Bleed screw to remove air
4: (I think) Smoke adjustment/fuelling screw
5: (I think) blanking plate for turbo auto advance/retard
6: Mounting bolt
7 & 8: Diesel in and out lines - low pressure
9: STOP solenoid - turns off fuel to stop engine
10: Throttle spindle - makes it inject mroe fuel and so go faster

The little screw next to the number 10 on the main body is also for bleeding, to remove air from the pump,

And...


The tickover adjust is, as POS says, the little levery army thing that rests against number 7
