I need the same matt need a stub axle for mine so any of ya know of one for a 110 back axle let me know ta .... Or if ya know of a 110 back axle for sale :) don't think these diff locks are doing it any good. An might change the front axle as well ..

Nope nothing like that. although the grease might be a bit watery due to wading. But I have got a huge tub of grease to load them up when I inspect the hubs again.

what looks different on your then?

ok if yours is a disco it will have rear discs, but the internals of the wheel hub should be similar

a bearing would keep coming loose if:

it was new and not propely bedded in yet. keep resetting the preload until it doesnt loosen anymore

it was not tightened up sufficiently in the first place and keeps wearing loose

the bearing outer races have not been driven fully home and so are moving inside the hub in use and thus loosening the bearing preload in use.

the wheel hub/bearing components are damged and so the bearings are running out of true, or it is a bad bearing that wears.

ive done quite a lot of bearing folly in my land rover time, so let me know whats up i might be able to help.

cheers

p.s. bigbenny have you got a salisbury back axle? if not i have a load of 10 spline spares, stubs/disc hubs etc

Thanks for the advice, i'll check all of those when I inspect the hubs again.

I had replaced the bearings and races myself so I know they were tapped home as I did enough of them during my mechanical career twenty years ago.

ooooh it took me back it did, like i'd never been away from refitting wheel bearings. Anyway.......

During the process i fitted new discs and bearings so it's possible something slight is amiss.

Although another issue which may or may not be related is I don't seem to have a full pressure break pedal and when pressed hard there is pulsating feeling coming back through the pedal.

Further investigation required.

ok so maybe theres some **** under the disc, the disc is not mounted true, and the force of braking against a wobbly disc is forcing the bearings to wear loose.

i know that when i fitted new bearings all round, every time i went offroading i was getting at least one loose bearing, but after a period of 6-9 months of tightening they no longer seem to work loose. i have had a trouble free 6 months at least.

but i do think your brakes might be the culprit here...

if bearings are worn brake disc wobbles with the wheels, pushing pads away from disc and causes pedal to be soft on the first press untill the pads are pushed back onto disc by pumping the pedal

ey up Johnlad, how's it going?

I replaced all the bearings and am beginning to think the brake calipers might be worth replacing.
I did give them a clean and fitted new pads when i replaced the discs and bearings but the pistons seemed to be on their way out being quite difficult to push back due to grot and rust.

Just pop the pistons out, give them a sand/wire brush and pop them back in with a smear of grease. Some say don't use grease, works well for me just to help.

Also have you boys looked in the off roading section about Bala on the same weekend you are laning? Fancy combining?

Take a look!

im backing out of this one again! sorry, just cant risk it without a solid diagnosis on this knocking noise.

hope your sorted matt.

Matt

yeah its the salisbury axle m8 with a difflock in it . ive not found one on ebay at the mo :( i do need a front diff tho for a td5 as that wots in mine td5 front axle ....

Can't make this weekend, but will keep checking out your adventures! You lot all sound like mechanics.... I only know where the basics are such as steering wheel, gear box...... Interesting reading though!

Hi all,
