Now i know that you cannot be too adventureous in a freelander and that the wade depth is something like 400mm. My question is are there and breathers or plugs that need to be worried about if i am going to drive though water (say like a ford) in my TD4 Auto?

I think i remember someone mentioning something about breather pipes and wading plugs on series landys.

extend rear diff breather up behind rear side panel & auto box up behind fuse box....cheap bit of pipe will do both and put a simple filter (fueltype) in top of both to stop crap getting in

That is brilliant doobrydog, just what i wanted to know. Is lifting a freelander full of hastle aswell? I took mine over salisbury plane with a local group and was really impressed with what it would do standard apart from scorpion STR's. It did struggle with the ground clearance.

Yours look really impressive by the way

think it was celtic 4x4 did a lift kit for em but theres mixed opinions about liftin em, what with the drivetrain being made o cheese an all:rolleyes:

70k on clock 40k with celtic (no longer available try tornado motorsport) lift kit....no probs at all

If you can use a spanner and torque wrench you can fit lift...Mine was fitted in middle of field in Wales with SWMBO on spanners

I believe there is also a snorkel avaliable for the FreeLander.....I think that would be a good pre-caution as well :)

Snorkel good for dust with FL...but FL will float before it becomes needed for water....

If your in so deep that you need snorkel then fairly good chance all electrics will be fooked and engine will be last of worries

watch your alternator ive done 2 in with very shallow water and one with an engine steam clean, worried about driving in the rain now. put your wellies on and walk the water then drive round it

Yeah BMW TD4 is basically a car engine and the alternator is a little low for proper wading. :(

Breathers are a damn fine idea though..... must do that next ;)

Any ideas to get around the problem with altinator? When you have had problems with the altinator after wading, was it just the altinator or did it take out anything else with it?

everthing else was fine just the dreaded red dash light normallly 10 to 20 miles in to my journey home some one should produce a kit to lift alternator dout its possible though, moving to southern italy in 3 weeks so water shoudnt be a problem i hope

Do wheel bolts get corroded from regular wading?

I noticed today the black bolts on my 2004 car wheels are rusted quite badly, and the underside of the central exhaust pipe is also rusted badly. Also mud spray/splashes are up the firewall thingy near the bulk head, and starter motor is also rusting.

Looks like the previous owner had some fun it, I reckon!
