Vogue 90...

Hi guys, just some advice needed and a bit of encouragement really..

Basically I want to build a defender 90 with a difference.. I want to convert a sport wagon defender 90 and put the interior of a range rover vogue or similar into it and have as much of the new tech as possible?!

Is this possible? How viable is it?

Best of both worlds? Rugged looks of a Defender with a few creature comforts. I wouldn't want too much electricals, too much to go wrong!, But some nice leather Rangie seats....... nice

Why is that a bad thing? Lol ok, what about more of a luxury inside think of that.. I basically want a tuff looking defender that can go anywhere and have the luxury of one of its brothers..

Yes exactly that! Rugged but luxurious..

My dad has a similar thought on the electrics, what you think would or could be my main issues?

You'll spend years trying to explain why you didn't just buy a Land Cruiser.

.. but you said in the first post "and have as much of the new tech as possible" .. You a quick-change artist?

Frankly if you did put the electricals into it you'd be a bit of a fool, IMHO, unless you only wanted to keep it on the road .. then you'd be an even bigger fool!

For instance, what'd happen the first time you went through a decent ford or lane like Strata Florida and needed to empty the mud out?

Still agree with what I said though .. OP wants all the new tech, 'off-road' oriented Defender doesn't equate ...

It all depends on what you're going to use your Landrover for, If its only for road use,you're not so limited. But if you're going to be Heavy mud-plugging and deep wading electrics want to be kept to a minimum.

Why would I buy a land cruiser.. I'm not living in the Zambezi.. Even still why would I have a land cruiser.. :s na

I think you guys are originalists through and through and can't seem to imagine a def 90 having a luxurious interior.. That's all I'm after rugged but luxurious.. Give me a break guys I will not be trekking the Malaysian forests init, I would have a completely different idea if I did..

It's because I love land rovers I want to do it, but as a predominant road user luxury is key in this build? Would you now see my point?

Yeah I see your point there completely, this build will be road use, and probably not be wading or mud plugging unless the weather in this country took a significant turn lol

Although I would also like def 90 to do that in haha

Do you think the terrain response tech could be imputed into a def90, and if so anyone got ideas of cost?

Think it might be easier to use a RR with all it's sophistication of suspension and 'tech' and modify/stretch a Defender body to fit. I seriously doubt you'd get a 90 to work though ..

Good luck, not my cuppa tea, but it might be interesting to do ... but a Defender purely for on-road just seems wrong ...

Appreciate the comments Paul D if you haven't already check out the nene overland website, and how they put power and "on road" efforts into the defender, it's where my main inspiration came from..

I think once I find the right rugged/sporty defender, il have a play with adjusting various parts of the interior.. Sounds like trial and error is the only way forward!

I like the fact I seem to be the only bloke that's thought of it.. I'm hoping that's a good thing..

If anyone has any experience of this type of build I would love to hear it..

Whenever I "use" my landy in a muddy field it always gets totally covered inside with mud because you will get stuck if you are really using it and when you do you will have to get out and get a tow rope etc and in doing so you will get covered in muck. Its part of the fun. Having an interior that you can hose out is part of the deal. Also, most 90's leak (water ingress I think they call it) so having an interior will just get stinky and mouldy and help the thing rust from the inside outwards.

If you want a 90 for using off road then just buy one and get an old renault so you can feel comfortable.

Like the vehicle that landrover designed and made to fit that exact idea??

I think it sounds a great idea if expensive! I saw a really luxury defender at irb's workshops but nowhere near what I think you have in mind. The icon range from what I have seen are just defenders with wood floors and leather seats, very nice but not what I understand you are after.

I have to say first thing I would look at is door seals etc as you don't want to be putting in expensive gear for it to get knackered in the rain! If you manage to stop yours from leaking let me know I haven't yet.
