viscous vs electric fans

My stock 1995 300 tdi came with viscous fan and two electric fans in front of the radiator for Australina conditions. These must be available as standard products.

Thanks guys. I am guessing that because the air radiator and filter are sitting in front of the water radiator, they must block the natural air flow somewhat and the motor is working harder to push the vehicle along at the same speed when the air compressor is on. Hence the electric fans compensate for this additional heat load.

What I don't know is whether they also come in automatically if the water temp goes high ? Seems like a sensible thing to do.

In any case, my EGT meter has a alarm point relay in it, and I am planning to wire it to the fans so they turn on when the exhaust gas temp gets higher than normal. Can only help.

I was hoping to find a free wiring diagram for my 1995 300 tdi for the air cond system, but after many hours searching, still no luck.
