Viscous Fan Pully help in Guildford area

Anyone in the area got a pully tool?

the $%^ing viscous fan is on tight.

Yes I have , why not buy one they are cheap as Chips use a small tyre lever or Similar inbetween the water pump pulley bolts to hold it in position whilst you undo the vicous fan nut.

Are you turning it the right way? It undoes in the direction the fan normally turns.

yep.. all good tips.. soaked in penetrant as well. have a lever in the between the bolts, going in the direction of the fan rotation.

the neighbours ears are offended by my mutterings.

And yes, i did have my wheetabix this morning.

Well if your using just an open end spanner it hasn't got the right step in it as with a viscous spanner that's half your problem when you do get it off dont do it up tight just nip it it tightens its self Naturally when car is rotating

yep using a viscous fan spanner 32/36mm..

when i get it off ? getting a bit ahead of the game there grit.. gotta get the damn thing apart first.

the wife already fell about laughing at my facial contortions in trying to undo it. I'm thinking i need more leverage, hence asking if anyone has a pulley lock too in the guildford area.

going to try having a cup of tea and staring at it to see if that helps...either that or get some heat on it by way of napalm.

If you get the corner of the nut hit it just enough to shock it on the corner hitting downward clockwise with a chisel and hammer might just break the nut then carry on with spanner

unfortunately Grit, it apprears that someone previous has done the same thing. one face of the V/F nut is scored with chisel marks.

i dont want to round off or damage the nut and result in a world of hurt . i'm thinking the pulley tool is the only option here

If you mark and use the worst corner you still have the other sides of the nut intack

if you hit well the center of each flat on nut in turn with a flat ended punch it will unscrew by hand you may need to go around a couple of times but it does work

Mine was really tight and managed to undo it be jamming a rag behind the belt on one of the pulleys so that it stops the belt slipping. Worked a treat for me.

hey saint long time no speak !! i just came back from your neck of the woods..

i had a long flat head action as a pully lock.. bent the naffing screwdriver. unfortunately jame the punch i have is short so i cant get a hammer down into the punch with any decent action on it.

i'll stop by a supplier tomorrow and get a bmw pulley lock tool

probably not a good idea as we know the heads on the p38 are not too tolerant of overheating though..

i'll check tomorrow if it has a stable temperature so it can be driven and if it is, i'll grab donuts on the way !

Ok no problem I'm about from 5.30 pm me if needed just thought tho if you got two peeps one could hold a decent bar between the w/p bolts if it's that you just can't budge it and the spanner isn't spinning off but you find things are tight I know

Ever thought if putting a large ring spanner over the open end of the viscous spanner to get extra leverage . The other can hold the bar in place .
I've never needed to do it that way to be honest but you could try
