We have an 03 plate Freelander. The propshaft has a fitting on it which has separated twice. The end of the fitting falls off and spins on the propshaft making a noise. I am able to push this fitting back on which sorts it for a couple of weeks.
On the attached photograph you can see the scratch marks on the prop where the bit has rubbed. The arrow points to the fitting.
I think that this is the Viscous Coupling - what can be done please to permanently fix the end of the part back on.
Apart from the noise when it drops onto the propshaft, there do not seem to be any other problems such as vibration etc.
Any suggestions or advice please ?

yu may well be rite - mee ol' mucker - but i have heard of the damper becoming loose, but not the two halves of the VCU.
its a bit difficult to decide exactly wot that arra is pointing too - it is generally towards the VCU.

Thankyou for all the replies, it does look like it is the vibration damper that has come adrift. I appreciate all your help.

Hi all, the damper did that on mine about 5 months ago and a mechanic with lots of freelander experience said he'd seen it numerous times and he just pushed it back on and put two small welds to hold it in place. Absolutely no bother since.
