Has anyone heard of this?

My local garage does it and they claim that most cars, even older ones can be retuned to have increased mph and more power.

I am assuming that this is another version of a synergy kit, but I see no mention of anything being attached to the engine, just a reprogram of the engine management system, I think they claim.

Most engine ECUs can be reprogrammed. The idea being that the factory ECU is a "one fits all" affair. Being that every engine is slightly different, it wouldn't necessarily produce it's best power and or economy. So the factory ECU can be optimised to make that engine work better. Turbo diesel tuning is getting popular simply because such massive gains can be had especially if the boost pressure and feeling are increased. As to who to use? Research is the key. And remember that the light that burns twice as bright lasts half as long.

I would imagine it would end up being a waste of money.

I shall probably go down the synergy route once my wallet has recovered from the garage bills. :)

I had an ECU remap on my old Vauxhall Astra, practically turned it into a brand new car, gave it some serious throttle response and increased speed, also got about an extra 10-15MPG. Well worth it, didnt seem to have any downsides at all. Will probably be getting it done on my freelander when I can afford it! Havent done any research on it though so not sure what Id be getting just yet.

I wonder what the cost would be?

I paid just over 200 to have my MG ZS180 re-mapped. Because I'd done a few mods to the induction and exhaust system I had is optimized. Throttle response improved and I gained 15 ftlb of torque. So#It's worth doing. Not all cars respond the same but there is always an improvement.
