I HAVE A SLIGHT VIBRATION AT AROUND 57 AND AGAIN BETWEEN 67-70. IT ONLY SEEMS TO BE WHEN I ACCELERATE, AND ONLY FROM THE REAR. IS THIS DUE TO WHEEL BALANCE NOPT CORRECT??
HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD VIBRATIONS AT THAT SPEED WHEN THIER WHEELS NEEDED BALANCING?? PLEASE HELP:( :doh:

have you checked your driveshafts on the rear are the bearings in the diff OK? I had a bit of wheel juder last week and it was a case of one wheel the brakes were over tight and as it got hot the more vibration check all this out then again it could just be wheel balance

erm i dont think it is that. Ive just changed the rear prop shaft bearings as it was noisy and i made sure that i put the prop + bolts back in the position i took it off of, but i didnt mark where the yoke came off of the spline as when i read the rave manual it said nothing about having to make sure it went back the same way. Is this right?

If your wheels are out of balance will it vibrate slightly at 57 + again between 67-70??

Did you align the VCU support bearings when you refitted ? You could drop the rear drive train off and see if you still have the vibration or you could get the rear wheels balanced in case they are the problem.

done that today still had vibration. am gettin wheels balanced tomorrow, hiopefullt that solves the prob as off across europe on wed!!!

Hi there. Did U ever get to the cause of this problem? Need help. Have same issues with my 2005 TD4 & would appreciate your help. Thanks. David

Start with basics. The rear tyres go out of shape. Feel around them, you'll feel steps in one direction but not the other. They make a rumbling noise and can vibrate. Goodyear wranglers are quite prone to it!!!!

just an observation regarding wheel vibes .. although at a different speed :

when i bought the car in feb this year .. it had a set of michelin synchrones fitted
in good condition .. 'bout half worn tread-wise .. although with some cracking
at the edges on the rear set .. where the tread 'n sidewall meet ..

i noticed some minor steering shimmy around 75/80 mph ..

later on .. i changed all the tyres to new pirelli str scorp's ..
wheel alignment checked .. wheels balanced ..

still had the same steering vibe at the same speed ..
felt as if it might clear if i went faster .. but had no inclination to try :)

after a couple of weeks i checked the wheel nut torques ( as recommended )
all the nuts were still torqued to spec. Except for the locking nuts ..
those only needed a very small adjustment ( 16th or 32nd or less of a turn )
to bring them to the specified torque ..

however .. after that .. steering shimmy went away all together ..

~~~~~~
noticed that recently as i had reason to get past a slower moving bunched-up mix of vehicles ..
and wanted to do so quickly .. .. i normaly prefer 65/70 as an 'M' way cruising speed
