Hello everyone,
I have noticed over the last few days a slight vibration occuring on the front of my freelander TD4, Y reg. Particularly at speed on the motorway. Its not enough to make the steering wheel shake but I can hear it one or both of the front wheels.

I came home last night after travelling down the motorway and decided to put my hand on the front alloy wheels, (stupid I know !!). The drivers front was just warm as you would expect but the passengers front was scorching hot with a funny smell coming from it.

Any ideas please (apart from a skin graft on my hand!!!)
thanks
Nick.

Mine did that a month ago. It was the caliper piston not returning. Same side as yours. Got a recon caliper for £75 from local motorfactors. Also replaced disks and pads. Took about an hour to do. Very simple job.

Thanks fellas,
it all seems to be the same problem. I now have the car jacked up on one side and I've unscrewed the bottom pin and tied the caliper up. The pads (which do smell of burning!) are off and I'm cleaning them as we speak. The pads have a good thickness on them as they were replaced 8 months ago. The discs seem ok, just on minimum thickness. The caliper is moving freely and I,ve just forced the piston back with a G clamp. It moved back freely after the initial crack.

Any other ideas apart from replacing everything?
Thanks
Nick.

Just replaced the caliper £81 inc vat and two new discs £48 inc vat (cars having a birthday!!)
Just going to bleed the caliper side when the wife gets in.

Question, should the ignition be on? (I mean dash board lit). Just reminded myself of meatloaf for some reason........
Thanks
Nick
