then it is most likely rear prop or axle dont bother with front output bearing

I did test drive it with the front prop off and it was ok. Same result as removing the rear. This does not make much sense but the output is the only thing I can see at fault.

ah didnt know that,id remove sump of transfer box and feel for free play in diff but mostly intermediate gear cluster freeplay can be removed by tigthening nut on rear of box with big bar and 30mm socket,feel gears for wear as well notchiness in turning before out put unless it feels notchy

that only works with lt77 tho, not r380?

how so t/boxes are similar only td5 ones with idiot spacers cant be adjusted on nut at back

thought so,didnt quite understand if you understood what i meant ,end float on intermediate gear is very common on some noticeable others not ,obviously with helical cut gears its thrust in opposite direction in overrun

yeah - must talk sometime about big clunk in 300tdi, when my dau lets me have the car back .
