My early 90 with 200TDI engine is my daily drive - around 25 miles each way with a mixture of A roads and traffic jams. It's been fine for the 18 months I've been doing it.

For 35 or more years I commuted between 18 and 25 miles each way by motorcycle and in a series when the weather was dodgy.
You have to want to drive a series and put up with all the noise/leaks/problems, but boy are they fun !
Reality of 40 to 45 mph cruise is nearer the mark in a diesel.
Average MPG 16/20 on petrol. 24 to 28 on standard diesel running proper 4.7 diffs.
The other half will hate it and not want you to take her anywhere.
Great forums for banter and tips.
Sold my last one when I retired as cant afford to keep all the toys and the old bikes won my affections.

Agree re tyres Col. For many years I ran Avon Rangemaster (also known as "Strange Bastards")
205 x 16 Couldn't wear them out and never got stuck. An 88 does look good on 750s but they limit the lock a bit.

14 miles round trip daily for last three years. Never ran better. On 750's with std petrol engine. Stuck to B roads and modest speeds. It'll depend on what mileage and roads you plan to do. All cars work better when used regularly.
