Hi all
I am prepping the bulkhead of my series 3 for repair, pillar/floor replacement etc.
Question... Does the bulkhead fit vertical/90 degrees to the chassis as viewed from the side? I want to be able to check the position after removal. The chassis currently is level to the ground checked with spirit level.

Fitted at the moment the bulkhead is about 15 mm out from the outriggers and up against the two chassis supports in a vertical position.
I just wanted it for accuracy in repairing.
Hopw this makes sense.
Cheers Peter.

The design looks like the door pillar should be at 90 degrees to the floor in the cabin if that's what you mean. If you are making repairs to the bulkhead with it fitted to the chassis then I'd be using the rest of the structure as a guide. Think about the holes that are meant to be there such as the doors i.e. try and get the gaps right (I'm sure you can do a better job than Land Rover!)

Hi The only way I can get the bulkhead near vertical is by forcing the two chassis brackets against it.
If I started cutting bits out then it wokd return to its non vertical state.
I think I will heat up and put a set in the two big chassis/bulkhead bolts so it sits straight without any pressure and see what happens,

cheers peter

There are spacers between footwell and steering relay / chassis bracket normally this is to allow you to get the door opening set up correctly as rear of tub is fixed with rear of chassis brackets. Door bottoms are square so pillar should be vertical.

The title of this thread is perfect for what I'm doing and I have a question for @Blackburn about his last comment.. :)

Are these spacers between the chassis bracket and the front (vertical) face of the footwell (which I can't find in the parts book), or the shim washers listed as part 106 'as required' in the attached image?

I feel like I need spacers between my chassis bracket and the front vertical face of my driver's footwell, but don't want to rush into that if I should be fixing the misalignment elsewhere - and I can't see spacers there in the parts book. I've got no more movement in the horizontal slots of my chassis bracket on that side. The gap between the base of my door pillar and the rear tub is right, I just need to bring the top towards the tub a bit more, it's not quite vertical and the chassis bracket won't move any more..

Thats looks like them to me. They are oblong shaped.

Cheers. Not the first time you've sent me to the S3 parts book about my late 2A. I should get the message. :)

So there are three different shims and packing pieces on this side, I'll have a closer look today and see what I've got and what might help to have more of.

It's had some bad repairs in the past, I'm not past thinking someone's done the driver's footwell in such a way that it's fixed the door pillar off-vertical with no more room to move at the chassis bracket.. and I do need to replace some of the footwell. I wonder if I cut the rot out of that I'll find I can set the pillar vertical, I'm only out 1/2" at the top on this side now.

Success! I found where these shims go. I do have some here and there but not everywhere the S3 book shows. Loosening all those fixings to properly separate the driver's footwell from the chassis and steering bracket got me the movement I needed to set the door gaps right then with a bit of to and fro and after tightening it all up again I've got a vertical bulkhead and 34 1/2" door gaps top and bottom both sides. I'm happier to start my door pillar work now with that. Cheers as I didn't know about those fixings tucked away near the steering drop arm.
