Disco 4 (LR4) Vehicle speed sensor Q

Hi all, don't generally venture into this forum, just a quick one hopefully someone can help a friend of mine with.

Fault code P0501, presume the speed sensor to which this fault code relates is likely referring to an ABS sensor?

Hi, no, it refers to the VSS (vehicle speed signal) input which is delivered by the ABS ECU on CAN bus to the other ECUs but that P0501 is a generic OBD2 code which is not the way to diagnose a D4, a dedicated LR compatible tester is needed to read the complete code which has a subcode too otherwise it's just a shot in the dark

Thanks for info, I assume the icarsoft code reader although LR specific may not do the job.

that tool is quite rudimentary but if it has the D4 in th coverage list it's better than a generic reader anyway cos it should be able to scan each ECU

It does list the D4 so will give it a go to see if can drag some more details out of the relevant ecu (ABS). Thanks again...

IIRC Icarsoft has that "systems scan" feature so run that for all the systems cos the VSS code might not be generated by the ABS ECU as it can deliver the signal well just that the signal doesnt reach some other ECU
