Just sourced a free supply of used vegetable oil to run the Disco on

Fish and chips anyone :)

I know its an ongoing saga but what are the best filters to use on used veg oil?

Be careful how much you use in this cold weather, I have some filtered veg oil sitting in the garage, and it looked like glue when I was out earlyer.

You really dont want to be trying to start your engine on that.

cheers guys,
I was going to try to get a bit more technical with a length of soil pipe screwed to the garage wall and a screw on end cap with a section removed to take the recomended filter. This also gives me the option to easily change filters (Stockings) as required. Not to mention (as Yella has so obviuosly pointed out) a drum underneath to catch it all.

I am currently running fresh veg oil 40/60 (Diesel) with a handfull of white spirit and dont seem to have any problems with the cold at the moment. Definetly get out feeling hungry all the time though :)

I couldn't get mine started when it started to get cold, no mater how much i mixed it with diesel.

I'm not sure but i think it separates from diesel in your tank, so all you get through is pure oil cos it ran pretty crap when i first filled it up with a 50/50 mix. but when i got below half a tank it ran and started better.

But i have no glow plugs, just one of them silly cold start things.

Hi Daren, I have been thinking about using veg oil for a while now in my TDi Disco and have some used oil set aside as a "project", how long have you been using it & can you use any white spirit?
