Hi all,

Pretty sure the VCU has gone on our freelander, feels like brakes are on... just had some juddering going round corner, also when reversing it can pretty much stop on its own with no brakes... Just trying to rule out rear diff so... quick question in the picture do the two halves of the VCU spin at different speeds/independently of each other? I marked as with the lines you can see... took it for a quick round the block, not just a straifght line... came back and lines are exactly in the same position line. Is this foobarred?

Looks like it.
do the one wheel up test and dont drive it unless you have to, otherwise it could be very expensive,

It's not in two halves, the left hand part is the vibration damper, the right hand bit is the actual VCU. The four cylinder models have the damper but not the V6s.

And just as MHM suggested, do the OWUT [one wheel up test]. Time over two minutes = stiffened VCU and time to replace.

Definitely test the VCU.

But if its happened all of a sudden it is more likely to be a tyre has lost some air, so test tyres to make sure they are all the same pressure as well. I presume all 4 tyres are same make and spec?

And his nickname tells you his favourite pastime, just as well considering his choice of vehicle. :p
Haha cheeky fecka I will have you know that there is not one bit of rust on my disco!!!
Or is it there's not one bit of metal that ain't rusty on my disco? I can't remember . Its one of the 2 anyway!!
Still rather have rust, than a tin of custard that you
Iot call a VCU

Spotted on the back window of a Toyota pickup the other day.
ONE LIFE. DON'T WASTE IT FIXING LANDROVERS!
Kinda has a ring to it don't you think.

Still it could be worse, we coulda bought a Vauxhall.
Oh! I did that too. :(

@Alibro Can't believe you've admitted owning a vauxhall
Saying that still better than a gay lander ;)
Seen what some idiots done to their hippo to make it look like an off roader. It just round the corner from me
I can't stopped feking laughing at it!

one little torch light on the roof, petrol can strapped to the roof! Bonnet catches, snorkel made of drain pipe that points up to catch rain water !!WTF goes through their heads!!
Give me rust any reckon day than that heap!! Lol

Nothing wrong with a Vauxhall. Our GTC was a fantastic car. It would cruise at 85 Mph while doing 50 Mpg. Not many vehicles of the same size could do that. As for the anti-Freelander comments from Weldy. I think the man doth protest to much. ;)

I'm actually looking at freelander 2 today for her!! But don't tell anyone as I will never live it down!!!
And I didn't realise Vauxhall's had that kind of mpg. All i remember of them was my mate took his frontera off road and the whole thing twisted to the point his fekin doors overlapped the pillars!! ( Slightly exaggerated) but it knocked out all the panel gaps! As it flexed that much
But still keep it between us that i might be buying a gaylander.. I've got my reputation to think off

I must have bought a bad un then. So far I've spent over £900 since Christmas on parts alone. If I'd known then what I know now I might have saved around £250 on parts that may not have needed to be replaced but it would still have cost me around £700.
Here is my thread about it.

I like the stop sign coming out the roof, handy that, think I'll fit one.
There is a G4 copy Freelander knocking round Sheffield, see it near work sometimes. Its the wrong colour of orange, so you can't miss it. Makes me cringe every time I see it.
But whatever makes people happy. Some people even drive Discovery 4's, nutters with deep pockets me thinks .

Chris, have you managed the OWUT yet?

The rear brake drums have a habbit of binding if the handbrake has been left on for a while - and certainly was a cause of some concern for me when I bought my FL1. But it has a OWUT of 45 seconds and with the rear drums back in full working order, all seems well :D

I'd love a G4 Challenge FL1, but definitely wouldn't pay the £15K they seem to go for.
