on the subject of VCU's, My freelander has got a recon one from bell and i am confident it is working well (why wouldnt it) but on full lock on my 2000 the inside tyre scrubs slightly. I put it down to thats what its supposed to do. My missus on the other hand has a 05 with the different ratio's in the IRD. Just the same amount of rear wheel scrubbing. Do all freelanders scrub the inner rear wheel?

Have a look at the one wheel up test I did on a Beaumont on mine......If yours does this ur 2wd!!

Landrover Freelander One wheel up test with Beaumont VCU fitted - YouTube

Find a very very steep/wet hill and give it some beans.....stick ur bonce out the window and check if you rear wheels are driving/spinning. If not ur 2wd.

O.k. guys so I've got the back wheel in the air, I haven't got a long bar but going to borrow one later. I have turned the wheel by hand and with a short bar on one of the wheel nuts. It turns slowly and needs a fair bit of pressure but feels to turn smoothly. Is this how it should be. I've seen a guy do same on you tube and it looks about same as mine.

Probably best to should use a bar of 1m or 1.2m length and a weight of 5 or 8 kg so we can compare it to the other results.
Then see how long it takes for the bar to travel 90 degrees, say from 1:30 to 4:30.

Done the test. Not very technical I'm afraid but here's what happened. Just under 1 meter bar, just under 5 kg weight, the wheel turned slowly and weight dropped smoothly through about 90 degrees to the floor. From what I've read I'm happy with the result, what do you guys think ?

I thought the test was done from the centre nut under the Landrover cap?
