well just finnished fitting recon vcu and after test drive she's all i wanted no feeling of breaking in revers no noises nothing hill desent tested and working good 4 wheel drive seems ok but will need to test on some wet stuff tomorrow car drives like i would expect
my old unit was on its way out i think it breaked the car on full lock foward or back but had not failed completly now hopfull all will be ok :D:D
 
I've found that I am getting skidding sounds when turning left or right, mainly from what appears to be the offside tyres, on gravel or smooth tarmac...... anyone else get this?

car has done 111k
 
depends how bad it is ,when doing a sharp turn on loose or wet surface it is normal as grip will be less than effort needed to turn v/c
 
I turn left into a road on an incline with dry smooth tarmac (the shiny stuff), offside wheels give a small squeal.

Turn right out of work over some small shot gravel and offside wheels skip a bit.

Its just that I have done double the mileage from what some others have when they incur problems.....
 
i may have f***ed up my last reply now the recon vcu is fitted i do NOT get the feeling of it breaking ..
feel's like i would expect no binding nothing
i no it's working wright as when i pull off sharpish i get some front spin ( only slight )
then you feel power going to rear .
i still need to test it on wet stuff tonight ill let you now how i get on

The one wheel up test, as it's becoming known, allows you to see what slippage your vcu has. The weight v distance of weight along the bar, produces a value of newton's applied. The greater the newton's, the faster the wheel will turn. This is a visual comparison of what your vcu is doing, wiffout having ta take it orf. If yer vcu dun't turn as fast as yer think it should, then you know you have a problem.

The wet grass test un reversing test int as good as the one wheel up test. For example, my v6 auto will wheel spin happily on grass - all 4 wheels. That tells me if I have drive to the rear, but not if the vcu is "tight" or seized.

new /recon vcu last one was tight just wanted to see if 4 wheel drive was ok

i was originaly responding to another question from someone else who feared his was seized ,jacking wheel up proves it isnt / is ,also if you fear no drive to back it proves isnt/is some fail or are built with no viscous function just slip ,with v/c in good condition you still only have drive to both axles (for ease of explanation) so could stand still if one wheel on both was to spin,unlike a limited slip diff which just adds some resistance to drive which can be overcome with more torque ,v/c locks solid in effect the greater the torque/speed put through
