Freelander 1 VCU Bearings on the cheap

Just a heads up, if the rubber mounts are good and VCU bearings noisey, get a pair of these and press them in. £12 job done.

Have you managed to do this? I thought the bearings were moulded into the rubber, and usually cut up the mount and bearing to get them off the shaft.

I've changed them several times. The bearing just press out of the bonded bearing retainer. Be aware that some cheap bearings use smaller bearings than standard 6006.2RSR (probably why they fail quickly), so the standard replacements don't fit.
I use FAG bearings myself.
They press or pull out with equipment most people should have. Here I used a large socket and a soft faced hammer.

When I had to do mine, it was the opposite way around, the bearings themselves were find, but the rubber was 90% AWOL. I was initially going to fill in the missing rubber with pulyeurathane mastic, most likely tiger seal, however ony of m friends talked me out of the idea, by appealing to my sensibilities of "proper engineering workmanship".

Hi. They pressed out easily enough.

SKF is a decent brand - most bearings I've found on Rover engines are SKF, so would not be remotely surprised if these were SKF from the factory.
