morning all, I’m after good bulkhead for a 200tdi 110 pickup. I assume there’s variance through the years I.e will a td5 or tdci not fit?
Am I best to source a 2nd hand one and blast and galv? Any advice appreciated as always!

Thanks and have a good Easter!

Ash tree do bulkheads £1k galv. May be a bit more git mine 3 years ago. These are fully repaired then dipped.
Trouble is there is waiting lists. There are others.
Now any bulkhead up to TD5 will fit.

If you galv yourself you have to drill holes in places to allow full galv & gasses to escape.also could twist

Keep an eye on eBay. I picked mine up from a guy around Stanley, Co. Durham area. It was £850, already repaired and dipped. I only had issues with bonnet hinge bushes, but probably because they were Bearmach more than his workmanship.

Just checked on eBay. He doesn’t have any listed, but I will keep having a look for you. There are some around the midlands, but they are wanting £1500+! I wouldn’t be looking to pay that much, that’s £700 increase in 12 months!

I remember around 12 years ago when LR messed up and sold TD5 bulkheads for 170 odd quid, I wish I had bought a dozen of them.

There are some minor variances. Early 200Tdi bulkheads didn't have door switches for interior light. If your Landy currently has door switches then it's a bit of a faff when you have wires with switches dangling and no holes in the A pillar to thread them through. 200Tdi's have the fuel filter bolted to the bulkhead, don't think a 300Tdi bulkhead has those bolt locations as the fuel filter went to the offside front wing.

Go back 20-years and brand-new TDi bulkheads were flooding the market for £100 (I know as I bought some)!
It was one of these that I had galvanised back in 2013 and fitted to my 90.

If you use your own bulkhead and have it galvanised (a very cheap process, I think my local please now has a minimum charge but it is still only £100+VAT and for that you can get a whole lot of bits cleaned, stripped & dipped) then apart from perhaps some slight rippling of the (thin) flat panels (which aren't visible when built up) then you should be fine. I bolted a length of box-section steel across the bottom mounts (to aid lifting as much as anything) and it was all perfectly straight when fitted.

Thanks all. I am keeping an eye out for one that’s worthy. I don’t think the budget stretches too far. If it were mine I’d buy one already dipped. I’ll continue with project and hope one comes up. I began welding up the one on there then when it turned it around I soon discovered it was just too far gone. The inside was totally shot

My local galvanizing place (Sawtry) have put their prices up. Was quoted today £250 to £300 + vat for a bulkhead, didn't include shot blasting either!! Last year when I got a quote it was £80 to £100. His exact words were "we know how much bulkheads are worth". Needless to say I've found a different place.

How much they are worth really shouldn't be the issue though,
