Having not long got car back together after rad blew, was trundling along when there was a rattle at front end, within seconds I got an alternator warning on dash, and pulled over, engine off a bit sharpish etc. Quick look under bonnet revealed frayed drive belt. Got home and looked a bit deeper and found 3 out of 4 water pump pulley bolts were gone:eek::eek:, and 4th was only half in:eek:, wot da f*#k??? Having only been in front of engine a few days beforehand I know they were all there, and I know they were threadlocked when I changed the pump 18 months ago.

Anyone else experience this? know wot cause might be? remember wot size bolts are, so I can get some more?

Putting thread lock on them is good. But remembering to tightening them is a lot better. Properly tightened blots will never come out even without thread lock.

why didn't I think of that, it's so obvious!:doh::doh::rolleyes::rolleyes:

They were good and tight, torqued up+threadlock, and were there for last 18 months and at least up until 24 hours before without any issue, just can't figure why they would suddenly up and **** off, I had had a bath too!:D:D

Sorry my friend but your pleas fall deaf ears. In 49 years in the trade i have seen many things, but never have i seen properly tightened fan pulley bolts come out. With or without thread lock on them. They are usually a bastard to get undone with many scored knuckles to prove it. It just does not happen. Did the bottle of thread lock have Plus Gas written on it by any chance?:D:D:D

I had this on a 90...hell of a rattle then all hell broke loose...luckily the woodruff key was still there. And i'd had it 2 years and never touched the bloody thing...i check them now regular!!

Update.... having stripped it down now, actually only 1 bolt was totally missing, 2 had heads sheared off, with the threads still in the water pump flange, and one remaining bolt still holding.....just, and rather bent.
