V8i Timing

Just to confirm i'm not going mad!!
when looking down at the crank pulley from the front of the car with a strobe light without any advance/retard adjustment should the timing mark appear to the left or the right of the TDC mark??
i believe it should be to the left about 5 dec making it 5 dec before tdc
Can any one confirm or correct me??

Also can somone confirm or correct me on the timing marks.
Mine seems to have a straight edge jutting out from the timing case and a large groove in the crank pully damper. No sign of any other decree marks or am i lucking in the wrong place??
If i look at the marks mentioned with the strobe the timing seems to be well AFTER TDC !!?
please help
