I have a 1990 range rover with a tappet noise on number 7 cylinder so I replaced the tappets with new ones (soaked in oil overnight) and still the same noise I did not find any serious wear could it be low oil pressure any thoughts welcome ps I changed the oil and filter

I had a similar problem, when it dropped a valve. Really noisey, but still ran with no overheating or oil pressure issues . I ended up having replacement heads,
water pump etc etc.

I bet it's not this but simple to check...

I had a really annoying ticking for ages, just like tappet noise. After much ****ing about it turned out to be a slightly loose spark plug. I could just hear it sparking, which from where it was sounded like a ticky tappet. Tightened up and noise gone. This was after I'd replaced tappets, cam, timing and rocker gear.

Worth a check just in case. Good luck.

Firstly you don't put new followers on a worn camshaft secondly if they are pattern followers they will not last log due to very poor quality.
Rocker arms are the most common issue with valve train noises
