V8 Series 3

My 2.25 petrol is shocking on fuel. Id feel alot better about using so much fuel if it sounded like a V8

I'm a mechanic so doing a swap wouldn't worry me but I thought I'd ask on here as to what you lot think of the swap. Surely mpg can't be affected too much, its near enough ****ing out the exhaust as it is LOL I'm not too hard on the thing so hopefully the standard box and axle will take the hike in torque?

A 200tdi conversion would be easier and probably cheaper, and less painful at the fuel pumps. The 200tdi engines are more than powerful enough for the handling of a leaf sprung Land-Rover. Quite a lot of modification is needed to get a V8 in. The bulkhead needs to be cut and welded. I think the chassis engine mounts need to be moved. You'll need to buy a conversion plate if you're keeping the series box. I think the oil filter needs to be moved using a conversion kit. Can't beat the noise of a V8 though!

V8's have been done since they were available donkeys many old kits or parts about. yes more work with the bulkhead and so on but if done neatly and to a good spec then it should be good and probably wont notice any difference in MPG than the original 2.25.

bulkhead fabrication,
engine mounts and conversion ring available from many people.

the V8 s are better on fuel.ive run boaf and the v8 is best.

I am in the same predicament but i have no mechanical skills. What i would really like to know is how much would a mechanic charge me for either a v8 swap or the 200tdi swap. I would much prefer the v8 if only for the noise but i suppose the sensible choice would be the tdi. Also, how much would i get for my SWEET running 2.25 petrol engine as this would go towards the swap.

i doubt if you could find a proper mechanic willing to undertake either conversion for much less than a grand

you'll get about £50 for your 2.25 engine

just putting a more powerful engine in isn't the end of the job as you ideally should upgrade it's ability to stop and corner, the sensible people just buy a depender instead of ruining a sweet running series

Cool, i shall just keep it as it is then. I am not bothered how slow it is cos i dont find it an issue and as for mpg, well my other car is a mini so i suppose it evens out lol. Thanks for your reply.
