I thought i would share some pics of a v8 we are rebuilding its a 3.9, the rebuild was due to a knocking noise complaint from last owner he thinks the oil pump failed as he took the rockers off and no oil was comeing up over the head but we have found no problems with the engine so all were doing is de cokeing it

im puting this in and takeing a tdi out i know that will not be popular but my other series 3 is a bit rough and was hopeing this would make it run abit smoother also will post a pic of what its going in to in a bit its a hybrid discovery chassis with a series 3 body so hopeing we will only have to change the engine mounts. thanks for your replys
 
taken all the pistons out and the camshaft theres a bit of wear on the main bearing shells and the big ends also one of the pistons looks damaged the piston rings are sieze cant under stand why its only one of them ?

the oil was quite clean but they guy we bought it from was complaining of an oil problem just odd that its only one piston and the bore is fine just going to change all the ends
 
What bore number has the damaged piston? Also is it my eyes or does one of the bores (piston crown shown in pic's 5 & 7) look cleaner than the others?
 
yes one does look cleaner but i have cleaned them all up soo they are all slightly diffrent i think and the damaged piston was number 5
 
also once i have rebuild the engine what are the problems ill find fitting it in a series 3 ?

Just curious, I seem to recall my 3.9 piston damage was #3, the engine also suffered a slipped liner & the block had to be replaced.
