96 4.6 V8 oil pressure at idle, anyone know what it should be?
and at other revs as well, im guessing theres some figures somewhere!

Reading the WSM for the 4.2 classic the oil pressure should be 25 lb/sq in, or in new money 1.76 kg/sq cm at a steady engine speed of 2400 rpm.

I would expect the 4.6 to be a similar reading

me thinks its around the 40psi mark

so 25 to 40 psi, il have to get a test gauge and check it out! thanks guys!

edit, i just found this on rave, what a clever bunch you all are! (my index dont appear thats why i didnt look straight away)

Up to 1999 2.06 to 2.7 bar (30 to 40 lbf/in") at 2400 rev/min with engine warm

Just found another mention of oil pressure in the same WSM for the 4.2 which mentions 30-40 lb/sq in at 2400 rpm, so I would think anything between 25-40 should be good.

Sometimes the aftermarket gauges are not that accurate, it might be worth going to your local corner garage and asking them to hook up their test gauge to get an accurate reading

My 3.5 reads around 60-70psi when cold at 2000 rpm, dropping to around 50psi when warm.

Idles at around 40psi cold, 25ish warm.

As it's the same basic engine, I'd expect similar oil pressure from a 4.6

cant help ya red but you got ya motor clean from bures yet?mines still dropping snot all over me drive and as fer the engine bay.....
