Morning all,
Just thought I would post this on here for you techy types. On friday just gone I put in new plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor. Up until I did this the car was running well. (But it did feel a little sluggish when you stomped on the loud pedal.)
She began missing, farting and backfiring on LPG.
So I retimed the old girl using the Haynes Destroy it yourself book. Thats when I ofund that the firing order on the leads was way out, as you'll see below

1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 is the correct setup
1-2-7-3-6-5-4-8 was how mine was setup.

Now how the hell it ran, let alone well is beyond me lol.
Oh, and just so people know, the Haynes manual is backwards. They atate that cyl 1 is front left. Not front right as someone posted on here.

depends where you are looking from? The 1st cylinder is (from drivers seat) is the front left which is correct. If you look at your car which is the front and when driving which is left or right? Now standing at the front of your car looking backwards the leftside is the right and vice versa

From what I gather, cyl 1 is the first on the right bank (as seen from the front) just behind the alternator. If this is wrong please correct me

Looking at the engine from the front(ie radiator) the even no's are on your left handside and the odd's are on your right hand. The firing order of the engine is cast on the inlet man .But do bear in mind that people swap and mess about with vehicles and engines. If I remember rightly SD1 V8's have the No.1 lead at the 1 o'clock position ,and other V8's have the No 1 lead at the 5 o' clock position.I'm referring to the position on the distributor cap. However the firing order is still the same on both ie 18436572.Don't know whether its of any use to you.
