hi I have a question, I have a mid silencer removal straight thru pipe I am installing tomoz, will it affect anything if I also install a side exit exhaust which will also remove the resonator at the rear? Will it be illegal?

Any interference with an exhaust that makes it "unreasonably" louder is classed as an mot fail.
4. A silencer in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition.

But then every modded car wud be a fail? I know plenty people with either mid section silencer removed or a side exit, but I don't know what the two combined would be like as effectively it wud be a straight thru pipe from cat back

why not put a tubular in-line silencer in somewhere? there's a company online who sell the bits... can't remember their name though, which isn't helpful.

As it's down to the testers interpretation I suppose till the sound level is measured and recorded there will be a few noisy vehicles passing that part of the mot test.
But as that rule is in place it doesn't take much to add the measuring bit, so one day maybe.

As for a straight through pipe I believe the V8 does like a bit of exhaust back pressure, otherwise it's running is "ruff" with some popping on the overrun, not that I'm interest, but try it and see.
My Janspeed cat-back system is great sounding,a completely diffent tone but still the same volume as the factory kit, not that I can hear much of the outside exhaust sound inside my disco.

As for your question "will it be illegal" for exhaust to be altered, I believe there nothing in criminal or civil law on that subject to say that it is, but then I only deal in contract law... So now back to work. :)

Thanks for replies guys. I'm gonna just get the mid section silencer removed tomoz and see what it sounds like then take it from there. I can't really find any rear section to replace the original online apart from the side exit I've found on fleebay. If anyone knows any links wud be helpful cheers

I had a 50th v8 defender with the centre silencer replaced. As discool stated, crackled and popped on the overrun and generally got on my tits after a while. Felt like one of them boy racers making lots of noise and going nowhere fast because let's face it, a 4 litre rv8 isn't fast.
Replaced it with a cat back Rimmer Bros system which made a lovely burble and not as intrusive and felt quicker too. May have been my imagination. Theoretically the car should lose power with the centre silencer removed, which was why I asked you to make a comparison before and after in your earlier thread
