Dad's 90 has a 4l rover V8 running through 4-1 tubular manifolds then a TD5 exhaust system.

The main TD5 silencer took a few knocks off road and then due to corrosion the exhaust broke in 2 where the exhaust exits the main silencer so I cut it out and welded in straight pipe as a short term bodge.

Whilst it does sounds lovely :D he complains that it is too loud with just the small backbox  Does anyone have any suggestions about which silencer to use as a replacement?

Ideally something that takes some of the noise away (not all of it mind) and is less bulky than the TD5 version.

Thanks,

Harry

Just had a similar conversation with my neighbour, just fitted a straight through system with just the rear silencer ,(2.5 petrol)...sounds bloody lovely, neighbours not very pleased with the increased noise level,.....leave it as it is and provide ear defenders?:)

If you want to keep a bit of noise and are obviously handy with the welder you could have a look at flowmaster.
Their 40 series has just metal baffles the 50 series is a bit quieter than the 40 with a bit more internal baffling.

put a "cherry bomb" in line, will still give a nice sound on hard acceleration but should dampen the drone.

Thanks chaps ;)

I suggested ear defenders and also that he was getting old and moaning for the sake of it, both of which gave a response along the lines of foxtrot oscar.

I'll have a look at Flowmaster and have also seen a couple of generic cherry bombs by Jetex which aren't too pricey.

Apart from making sure the pipe is the same internal diameter, is there any difference between one that is suitable for a V8 and one to suit a diesel?
