V8 Exhaust

Right i have a 3.9 v8 in my defender and at the moment it's running a td5 back box now this sounds nice it's just that i want it to sound like a bag of angry cougars. Can anyone recommend an exhaust system

Custom make one using 2.5" pipe into a stubby cherry bomb, if I can get mine fired up this weekend I'll upload a vid

hi there, i am running a 3.9 in a 90 and used a janspeed which had just the one box tucked out of the way and it ran and sounded awesome, good but not cheap. After much time and use it needed looking at so i took it off and went round AMD four wheel drive in merrylees, leicestershire plonked it on the counter and said, Recognize anything ? and low and behold it was near enough identical to the middle section on a 300tdi 90. So a bit of cutting here and welding there and i had a new system wich ran fine ( i use su s they are so easy to adjust and fettle) for a tenth of the price ! Happy days and good luck.

Yeah but the above using parts of the old system would cost about £50 max depending on the current pipe size

A V8 90 can't be too loud!

you could always try, should be pretty loud then use a clamp on connecter to put it back together if you don't like it, costs £6 and saves welding

took my exhaust off my 3.9. V8 today , sounded awsome, wasnt anywhere near as loud as i was expecting, was intending to put a straight thru pipe in middle and a standard back box, but low and behold the new straight thru is to short which shifts rest of exhaust back by 2/3" causing it to rub on a frame and axle duno what ima do now

Tell the company and make them fix it ?

smoke to them today (mm4x4) he said the pipes were all correct and could only offer me a refund :/ not good enough tbh !! Will call them tomorrow , i spend alot of money with them so i expect them to sort it out! so just got it set up now with straight thru and middle pipe but no back box does sound pretty good though haha

I have to speak to mm4x4 as well just bought a bonnet pod from them and got a call today to say they haven't got any made and not sure when they will get more in stock but were happy to take my money online before informing me

My previous experiences of them have been good, fast delivery and good quality products but i am pretty cheesed off about exhaust as it wasnt dirt cheap

my 4.2v8 bobtail rr had straight thru eggsauce with a small rear silencer sounded verrry nice..i miss the loud pedal sometimes but not the 8mpg

i have a cherry bomb the same as i run on my 3.5 sounds sweet! just run the bomb no other boxes- ill sell it to ya if u wan?

going to swop the pipe for a standard mid box, very disappointed at the quality of the straight thru the bend is wring it is to short and the mounts are not at correct angle and don't have the metal tip to bend to make sure it hangs in securely and wont fall out

It's a matter of trail and error to get the sound you want but I've found the best solution is straight through from the downpipes into one single pipe to the rear and then a cherrybomb/performance back box right at the end.
I tried loads of different back boxes even a racing can off a bike but it was too quiet so now I've settled for a huge stainless backbox from an impretza and it sounds like a thousand angry bulls!
