Hi,
Engine management warning light (amber) came on today. There isn't any difference in running or power.
Just wondering if there is any software i can get to check/clear the light myself?
Would appreciate any experience others have had with diag tools/software.
I have a v8 disco 2 2003 with lpg.
cheers.

should be obd2 compliant, i have one of those cheap leads off ebay and use easy obd to clear faults on the engine ecu of my p38. wont get into the body computer but its fine for engine stuff!

do a bit of reasearch into the protocol it uses before buying anything tho!!!

just thought, if your not doing anything one day when i'm free i could meet you somewhere and put my lead on it, see if it works before you buy anything!

prolly meet at sheff or meadowhall!

does the light clear when you restart?
are you running gas?becarful some after market soft ware will not get you all the faults and as most are only obd2 the fault is still stored in the ecu so can reput the light back on

Check the fuel filler cap is tight. See the warning notice on the cap re the engine warning light.

The OBDII readers are fine, but as has been said, the software is ripped from another source and restricts access to just the engine. I have one for the vehicle and the gas ECU.

Thanks for advice will check.Had AA out this morning read fault and came up with P1170 fault code oxygen sensor.
He cleared fault and light has reset.
I'm doing a bit of running around today so i'll see if it comes back on.

if you have pre and post lambda sensors fitted then you cannot remove the cats as the engine light will come on as it will think the cat or the pre sensor has failed.

what software is used? from where?

nathan is yours the dsco one? if it is on gas then you can remove the cats but present it for mot on gas and inform the mot tester not to test on petrol

it will release potentialy 20ish bhp but i cannot confirm this yet will be having my classic rolling roaded very soon to see. you engine will feel more responsive and a little more throaty exhaust note and a increase in mpg

The software that comes with the OBDII readers.

Look up Elm327 Data Reader in Google or ebay.

The electronics is fairly simple, the ELM chip does the conversion into Ascii code that can be displayed on a PC or Laptop (we use a netbook)

The software is a rip-off from another company so don't expect any software support.

We bought one for the Disco 2 diagnostic socket and another one for the Zavoli multipoint gas ECU.

Both run as DOS programmes under XP on our netbook (Acer Aspire One) and interface via the USB port.

They give a lot of information, and you can see real-time rpm/engine temp/Lambda feedback and so on.
