yep, depends on how skillfull you are (cut cats out and weld pipes in thier place) if its not runnin on LPG it will prob fail its MOT, I think rimmerbros do a de-cat sports system for the 3.5 carb but not the 3.9efi but check thier website. I decided i wasnt skillfull enough myself and ended up buying a cheap aftermarket cat (see my old threads) and a cat back sytem from Janspeed, does the job, sounds lovely. Why do you want to de cat it anyway? I dont think you can "tune" the V8efi engine as the engine management automatically adjusts to any changes made and will try keep it running as close to its factory settings as possible, I think.

i was looking for a cheaper alternative to buying new cats! as mine are shot!!!. the chap in my local garage told me it was,nt hard to do away with them and should have no probs with emmisionsfor mot ,as my disco,s only done 42000 and should run pretty clean?

is it both cats or just the 1? only ones gone on my old pipe, ive still got it in my garage, maybe you could chop it and weld it. But also you need to find out why your cats are dead so early on, was it a misfire on an emtpy tank? or something worse.

One of my cats went on my 3.9 and I had a full decat pipe made up.

It failed miserably on the emmisions last week and had to buy a new replacement pipe from ebay. Only £150 though and it sailed through :D

I still have the Decat pipe, was deciding wether the ebay it or fit it back on till next year

Thats what i would expect. Unless you paid £££ to have the ECU re-chiped.
Nice to know that u can't do away with the cats just like that though.:)

binjunkin i think that you have to have cats on your motor (96 disco) for its MOT by law whether it passes the emissions or not although i could be wrong.......just think i may have read that somewhere.

OK but cats have nothing to do with the exhaust note.
My old 2002 Cerbera had cats and was loud because of the exhaust system and the engine tuning a completly different sound to a standard D1 V8 or a RRC.

AJPs and S6's are always loud though, but in a vicious and good way.

After i had mine de-catted, (pre-cats and 'Y' piece), it was noticably louder. So much so that it struggles to pass the standed 45 degrees and 1 metre holding 3500rpm test on trackdays.

Some bolt on silencers required me thinks.

Did add to the pops and bangs though. But like you said, and AJP is completely different to a RV8.
