Hi all

I'm having to buy a new engine for my 300tdi Defender, I can afford to put a used engine in now or I can wait a month or so till I can afford a referbished one.

It is my main transport but I can borrow a van or my other half's car til then, getting around isn't an issue..

what do you guys think? pros, cons etc.

has anyone got experiance of both?

Don't buy an engine unless you can here it running OR get a written warranty with it.

As far as I'm aware, the engine in HL is a recon; prev owner blew up her original lump in spectacular fashion: I could smell it cooking but he wouldn't have it!

BOOM!!!!!!!!! hee hee blotted out the entire A3 with oilsmoke daft twot!!!

Anyway, the replacement lump's been in there 5 yrs + now with no real issues
HTH :) -mine's a 200 btw

i'd go for a good used one, like ratty said as long as you can hear and see it run to make sure there are no nasty surprises and change all the belts etc before you use it. the tdi's are capable of big mileages as long as they are looked after.
