Urgent....Reservoir Overflow.

I have just sold my 4.0 SE 1998 P38.

Am looking at 1995 DSE with an suspect engine. As it heats up the fluid level rises to overflow with the cap off the reservoir. He tells me that it does not overheat. I left it for 60 mins parked and it did not, but the fan was always on!

Any thoughts.... There is a very small return of water to the bottle at the top. My SE returned a small jet, this is more of a trickle.

Head gaskett? Normal?

If this is to be expected please tell me so. About to make an offer!!!!

any water/white foam in oil?

it might be the head gasket or it might be a blockage in the block or matrix. Has the Expansion cap been tested for faults ? (Only real way is to take a known good one)

My SE Vogue doesn't leak at all so wouldn't think this is normal.

Check the bottle to see if theres a sludge level (Oil). Open the oil fill to see if theres white sludge in the engine (This will be water)

It may be a simple as the expansion bottle is stuffed or the Radiator has been filled to high.

Thanks for all your help.... too many concerns for me to buy it. Just bought a 1996 N 2.5 DSE at auction. Keep your eyes peeled for faults!!!! I have one already!!!
