URGENT request for advice please.

Thank you for reading.

I have a 2.5 liter 300TDi engine in my 1996 Discovery.

For some months it has been running really well with intermittent power loss, 'holding back' for brief periods and then OK again. It has never been a good starter!

The problem seems to have worsened now with the engine stalling while going up short slopes/hills. This problem has become extremely regular.

Can anyone offer advice as to what the most likely cause(s) may be please? My initial reaction is fuel starvation, only a guess. I have replaced the fuel filter.

Any help will be much appreciated as I rely on the vehicle on a daily basis.

Thank you in anticipation.

Nope, never had a disco in my life! I would guess if there is one it will be attached to the chassis somewhere, there will be fuel lines going into it.
Manual should inform, or try lz forum search button.

Thanks again Turboman. I have just consulted the workshop manual and there is no sedimenter on a Disco of this configuration (ie Tdi).

Back to the drawing board!

Did you change out the fuel filter or check to see if the air intake hose is collapsing like turboman also suggested looking into? No need to return to the drawing board yet. A LR Tdi motor is crazy simple.

Agree ^^^^^^
With this sort of diesel, unless something has broken or worn out, the problem will always be due to fuel or air.

I thought there was a sedimenter:

sedimenter is just under the back by the wheel arch, drivers side, just behind the sub frame.
Emptied mine and it was like yoghurt, had been running on veg though

is the oil level correct if there is not enough then it could be that the engine is running dry. my cavalier is picky on its oil level if its a little low it will feel like it bogs down then springs back to life as i go up the rev range
