Hi I've changed my rear offside drive shaft oil seal this morning and now on putting the drive shaft back into the rear diff I cannot get it to fully engage it appears to want to go in another couple of inches or so.

Am I missing a trick here.

Thanks for your help I need a pint but can sort that out later.

Dave

Sorted now the splines didn't quite line up I moved the freelander literally 1 inch on the drive and it went together.

Couple more bits then the beer is to be had.

Hi, did you have to drain the diff to replace that seal?

Hi, No I didn't but I did it on my drive which has a slope, so that combined with the height it was raised up and supported on 1 corner, I left three wheels on the ground meant no oil came out.

I would imagine if it was done on level ground you would loose some of the oil.

That's a good scheme. :) I've got to replace mine at some stage and I didn't relish the idea of dumping the oil out.
