I'm in the process of refitting new suspension to my newly acquired Freelander 1 L314 Td4 auto. Previous MoTs show advisory for all the bushes. As I'm a bit too picky I'm replacing all the bushes.

The dilemma is the rear driver side shaft is seized in the hub, after having a detailed inspection it appears that the shaft may have jumped a tooth, or two putting it at a slight offset angle. The drive shaft is in two bits, gearbox joint stayed put rest came out. (SEE IMAGE)

Various replies from Facebook range from brute force through to CO2 and heat. Obviously I can't nip to Boots to get a gallon of CO2

Unless someone here has a better solution I'm going to get a replace the shaft complete, and a hub from Ebay or similar.

A replacement assembly is the way I'd go. It could take ages to get it out, especially if no press is available, and it'll probably destroy the bearing in the process, so a second hand unit is the way forward, especially if the bearing is in good condition. Just make sure you get the correct type, as there are 2 types of ABS sensors fitted to these vehicles, changing in 2002/3 or there abouts.
