Hi ming,

Sorry, cleaned out the loft and found something else, no spitfire this time you know, tried to get it down but one wall in the way and it's a shame to bring it down so the below item will have to stay where it is now. As it's so old no soundclip possible, engine wouldn't start, even though I think it's a RollsRoyce Merlin....:D :D :D

Hi all,

Believe it or not but today I succeeded to capture that special ticking noise. You can hear it on the below place, hope clutchdust and/or others can shed some light on it. Please ignore the extra noise in the background at the end of the video, that's my wife cutting the edges of the grass. That noise is of a Gardena batteryloaded grasscutter. The ticking spindown/unwinding noise is present loud and clear.
Thanks in advance.

Caught the noise today from the inside of the car, as you will notice it is hardly to hear, so my guess is that most (all) of the Td4's do have it but that it is unnoticed so far by most (all) of the other owners.

i've had cars that make a similar noise, not as loud,. its something to do withh the emissions control.. i was told its some kind of pump that sucks fumes back to the fuel tank. i've don't know for certain as it didn't really bother me . and the car ran ok.

Hi slob,

Thanks for yr answer, normally you don't hear the noise 'that' loud you know, but now it was taken with the hood open and the camera pointed towards the place from where I thought the noise came. But funny thing is that it is not happening all the time, so ???????

Hello all,

No ideas on what might cause this ticking spindown noise please ???
Are we, my neighbour and I, the only two Td4 owners having this phenomenae ???

silly Q, Willo - but av yu taken it to ya local stealer and said "wots this ere noise, and how much to fix?" sometimes thats an easy way to get summat diagnosed.

Yes, and the son of a B..... will not produce the noise while at the stealer (it's like toothace, when at the dentist the pain is gone), imagin the grin on his face when he asks "What noise" ???:D

fairy snuff - hippoos can be sneaky ickle buggers at times. - yu cud try takin it back a couple of times - if nuttin else - it'll anoy the stealer shed loads ;) :D

i do have to have a chuckle, in one post you guys slate dealer prices, in the next the want free diagnosis, wonders why prices are so high lol.

dont take that to heart just a abit of fun :) :) :)

that noise is real strange i not heard it b4 cant think of anything on a td4 that runs after the engine has stopped, no centrifugal rotor, all else is belt driven so should all stop spinning wen engine stops,
maybe a solonoid somwhere is playing up,

hi ya LR

thats why the prices are so hi - yu goota use the stealers when yu can for free advice - - then they make it all back when yu get them to do summat - itys all playin the game - aint it?

mind yu £100 an hour is a bit much - i bet Mondeo wudna mind chargin that - I know I cant.

hehehe, if they do it for free then its there for the taking i suppose :)

drink there free coffee and eat there biscuits while your there :p

Hi all,

I think the slob 'could' be close to the solution of this question. When I had the split L-hose today my wife said, while replacing the hose, to install the EGR as normal again (take the ball of the ballbearing out of the EGR vacuumpipe), as my SWAMBO 'asked' it so nicely I did. Have driven the car for a test after the hose replacement and none of the times I stopped the engine I could hear that weird noise, what I noticed was that when accelerating I saw again some black smoke coming out of the exhaust, that was something I noticed in comparison with before. The slob mentions something about a device he had on older cars that sucks exhaust fumes or so, maybe it has something to do with this ??

UNQUOTE.

Anyway, will wait another week or so to check it out, so the L-hose is replaced, the EGR works again and now waiting for that ticking spindown noise to stay away. Thanks to all who tried to be of help and will keep informed on this. (My neighbour got a ball in the vacuumpipe as well, so who knows ????)

Hi LR GUY,

I was at the 'stealers' today for that hose, which cost me 6.64 £ by the way and haven't drunk any of their coffee nor ate any of their biscuits. Cheap b....rds. :D :D :D (Just joking, the guys I go to are really good and helpful. Haven't mentioned the noise though as I was hoping to have some answer this weekend but as the EGR is operational again it 'might' be it stops now?)
