Hello - I have finally decided to go public with my landrover experience. Am I just desperately unlucky or are landrovers just not as robust as they claim? I have just bought an 06 D3 after my last freelander started showing signs of age at 58k ie I was told I had excessive wear to my rear diff and wear to the ird. My first freelander (02) died at 27k, the big end went. Last week my D3's (23k) orange parkbrake light came on and the LCD gear display decided to go slow, in that it only registered the gear several seconds after changing gear. The garage have told me that it is a clutch issue. Would this sound feasible. The reversing lights are also not working. I thought it sounded like an electrical issue rather than mechanical - can anybody shed any light on this for me. I am not particularly mechanically minded, I just need a decent towing vehicle for my caravan.

Like Mr Ratty ses, take it to someone with diagnostics and get it checked, my 07 had a fault in the switch for hand brake, think they just fitted new switch.

Commonest cause seems to be the gear change sector switch (I don't know its proper name) often it doesn't even need replacing, just recalibrating, a half hour job on the computer. Even the new switch will need calibrating.
With modern electronics a small problem can effect lots of other systems. I bet you have no reversing lights and no HDC.
