Hi All,

I own a 2003 Freelander Kalahari 1.8 with 58,000 mileage (head gasket has been replaced). The vehicle has a tow bar fitted recently and had no issues towing a trailer tent from Southampton to Cornwall. However, during the last few short journeys I have noticed a strange noise coming from behind the dashboard, lasting around 15-20 seconds. It only happens once per trip and usually after around 5 minutes.

I managed to record the noise using my phone: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlN56bzP2MIQgZZGHhbGTjKuw1xc6w

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the responses, the vehicle has a cassette radio with CD changer under drivers seat so isn't that. I noticed today that the coolant level was very low indeed (probably down to last litre) so completely topped it up and haven't heard anything since. The top of the coolant reservoir has very slight pressure cracks so could do with changing as well as the cap.

I did notice the temperature gauge rise for a short while but then returned to normal after 10 seconds, didn't think to check coolant. Hope the engine hasn't sustained any damage. Head gasket has been changed and the oil and other levels are normal. No mayo mixture and nothing leaking underneath even after standing. Fingers crossed!
