I don’t know the td5 setup, but when my 200tdi engine ****ed out oil from the pump, it was an o-ring at fault, a very specifically sized o-ring too.

I've done a bit of research and decided to just replace the pwr steering pump myself.

You can download RAVE.
The Defender manual may not have it but the discovery RAVE file does.

My steering box is shot anorl, leaking a bit. Just seen ont inter web you can get a rebuild done for £139 with 48hrs turnaround. Gorra be easier than fiddling round if you don't have the space or tools. Or £249 if you exchange the unit anyone done this?

Update!!
Finally got into a garage and the problem was a dodge gasket in the steering box.
All fixed and she’s runs like a beast - thanks for the help
