Hello and a little advice if possible please.

Just doing a rebuild on my LT76 prefix A box. No problems (that I know about ) so far but there is one thing I can't figure out and can find no proper reference to.
The distance piece on the rear of the mainshaft with the oil thrower on it (part number 502482).
I can obviously see that the outside goes through the oil seal (236305) but how does the inner side of the distance piece that sits on the mainshaft create a seal. I can see that it sits on a smooth partly splined piece of shaft so does it turn? or is it gripped by the bearing on one side and the mainshaft gear (218244) on the other and then turns with them - (if so why didn't they make it fit on the splines?)
If it does NOT turn independently of the shaft should it be sealed in any way or basically is the oil stopped from leaking out but the tight fit between the distance piece and the mainshaft.
Or, am I being totally thick and missing something.
Any advice welcome.

its clamped between bearing and gear, so it turns with the shaft, like the speedo drive there was no need to make it more complicated
