:).Evening all,I'm thinking of upgrading my Philips R770 head unit using a CD changer,is the Philips RC026 the right changer for this headunit?,also should my Freelander have a socket under the passenger seat?.I have had a good look and cant see anything under there..If theres no socket is it possible to connect the changer directley to the headunit?.Lastly what size/diameter are the standard fit Freelander speakers in the doors?.Thanks for any advice.

I looked under my passenger seat and found nowt,it being an ES i thought it would have one and the handbook said it was fitted there. The bastid took it out before he sold me it thinks i so i ordered one from a place down plymouth way, only £25 plus postage. While waiting for it to arrive i thought id fit some new pedal rubbers, yes, the fookers under the drivers seat!

Thanks for that,I think the cd changer at Duckworths is for a different headunit than the one I have.I think the headunit for that cd changer is a C42,the one for mine is a RC 026.If anybody needs the changer for the C42 headunit look here:Mail Order 4x4 Latest Special Offers.Scroll down to the bottom of the page it's £35.26 delivered.Hope its of use to someone.

Thanks for your help, sorry I did not reply sooner as I was on holiday.I decided that the R770 and the standard speakers are not that great anyway,so I will wait until I can have an upgraded Ipod based system fitted. Thanks again.:D.

I was pretty disappointed with the standard unit on mine, so I put one of these in:

Kenwood KDCW7537U

There's a CD Changer socket on the back - I've not bothered, as I can get enough music on the iPod. The changer socket can also be used to put a bluetooth car kit in, apparently.
I like the way it directly controls the iPod, and shows the track names on the head unit display. Unfortunately, most of the track names are too long to show on the screen, but you get the general idea!

I also bought a kit (from the same site) which means that the steering wheel remote controls the stereo. It's great switching tracks on the iPod without having to reach down to the stereo.

Not changed the speakers (yet) as I wanted to only change one thing at once, just to see which was the weak link. The sound is much better with the new head unit - even with the original speakers. I'll get round to replacing the speakers one day. Maybe...

Cheers

Ben

:).Thanks Ben,always liked Kenwood over most other brands, great sounds.Good to know the sound is better through standard fit speakers too.I have a Sony headunit/navigation system to fit at some point, will use the aux input for Ipod use.I dont have an Ipod yet, thinking of the 8Gb Nano in red. Thanks again Ben.
