Hi guys and gitls.

Ive just got my disco 2 auto and at only 135 bhp thought it wss very underpowered so got it superchipped which supposedly increased bhp to 180. The improvement is marginal. Surely there is more i can do? I have read that i could remove engine top cover then remove and clean a sensor next to oil dipstick? Any suggestiions greatly appreciated.

Also any members live in Fife scotland?

Cheers

Hi Bruce and welcome to Landyzone.

First of all a few facts and figures:

Discovery TD5 auto weighs approx 2250 kgs and has 136bhp in std trim. That means only 60bhp/ton so not a recipe for sporty driving.

If you've had yours re-chipped and hardly notice any difference you should be speaking to the peeps who did the work !!!

DII autos are not the best due to an under-speccd Torque converter allowing lots of over-revving until about 55mph when you should get TC (torque converter) lock-up.

Here's a few things you could try, and you need to do them all:

1. Change the air filter to establish a base-line;

2. Clean the MAP on the inlet manifold with aerosol Brake and Clutch cleaner - DO NOT POKE ANYTHING DOWN INTO THE SENSOR!!! They are expensive to replace. Do not be surprised if there is a tar-like substance cacking up the sensor.

3. Check/clean the red plug on the ECU. If there is any oil in there your injector harness needs replacing - approx £30 for the part.

Try those things and report back.

Thanks for your help, is the map sensor the bit I referred to next to the oil dipstick? I'll have to find out where ecu is located for the other bit. How do you clean that?

Cheers

Hi bruce...something is definitely wrong with your remap if you've noticed no difference. One possible reason is that is was remapped already? You won't know if it was remapped unless the previous owner has some history, but if it was tuned via a tuning box you should see if there's something under the hood.

Going from 136 to 180bph should give you a noticeable difference.

Other than remapping, put a decat pipe on, remove the egr valve and put a sports air filter on are 3 basic enough mods which compliment a good remap. After that you're into bigger turbo's, bigger intercoolers etc...

My car was struggling with power until I changed the gearbox oil. It really shifts now. I am looking forward to changing the transfer box and axle oil.
